Repotting A Houseplant

Repotting A Houseplant

After a while, your house plant may get a little too big for it’s pot or you might just need some new soil. In either case, here are some tips for repotting your plant:

Selecting a pot
When you choose a pot, you should be very careful with your selection. The new pot that you choose should only be one or two sizes larger than the one you currently have. If you get one that is too large, the roots will strain too hard to grow out and the plant itself will not grow well.

Pulling the plant
Remove the plant from the old pot and get the old soil off of it as best you can without harming the plant.

Potting mix
Choose a decent potting mix that will give your plant the nutrients that it needs. After you have it picked out, fill the bottom of the pot about a third of the way up. Place the plant in the middle and then fill up the sides with more soil. Finally, tamp it down so the plant will stay in place.

Finishing up
After you are all done placing it in the new pot, water the plant well and let it sit in indirect light for a few days so the plant can recover. After that you can put it in its normal spot.
